Our client is looking to recruit an ambitious Senior Planning professional looking to build their reputation and portfolio of planning experience in a successful, rapidly growing consultancy based in East Anglia.

Breckland District covers an area of 1,305 kilometres and in one the largest rural districts in England. Nestling just on the Norfolk/Suffolk border Breckland is centred round the five main market towns of Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford and Watton. There are also 112 parishes in Breckland but the majority of the population is centred round the five market towns.

As Senior Planner, you will be part of an ambitious, successful team providing their core client with high quality, timely and outcome based development management services.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • To manage a personal caseload of all types of applications to include large major applications
  • To deal with all aspects of the Development Management process to include consultations and negotiations with applicants and agents to obtain quality outcomes within the time constraints set out in the business's contractual arrangements
  • Providing timely, comprehensive and accurate reports and recommendations on planning applications to meet relevant targets
  • To attend the Planning Committee and present applications as required
  • To provide professional advice on planning matters to clients, the public, Members of the Council, and others as necessary
  • To be a mentor and provide guidance and support to other members of the planning team
  • Prepare appeals in relation to planning and enforcement matters. Attend and provide expert evidence at Informal Hearings and Public Inquiries as necessary
  • To attend public meetings
  • To keep up to date with current legislation and policy changes
  • To contribute to consultancy projects for the business
  • To ensure excellent customer service to our clients by phone, e-mail and face to face
  • Comply with Health and Safety rules for the safety of yourself and others

Your experience will include:

  • Significant experience in development management working within a busy team environment delivering a range of planning applications and appeal casework preferably within a Local Authority
  • A degree qualification in Town and Country Planning or equivalent experience
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
  • A thorough knowledge of current legislation relating to planning and enforcement matters
  • Significant experience in dealing with major planning applications and legal agreements
  • Experience of presenting major planning applications to Planning Committee
  • Experience of acting as expert witness at Planning Inquiries and Hearings
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to include an ability to make concise focused oral presentations
  • The ability to consider a wide range of complex planning and related issues and balance those issues to make a clear and reasoned judgement
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel etc)
  • The ability to prioritise and manage a significant workload, and to work flexibly to meet the commercial and contractual requirements of the business
  • The ability to use personal initiative to solve challenges and to work under pressure to produce timely and high quality work
  • The ability to work with a wide range of people and to work as a member of a team
  • Hold a current driving licence and access to your own vehicle
