Controls/Calibration Engineer

As a result of our determination to ensure our machines are global products of choice with class leading specifications. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Controls/Calibration Engineer.

What this role involves:

  • Requirements capture, specification building and development of transmission control systems for off-highway vehicles
  • Building control systems and simulation models
  • Analysis and interpretation of vehicle and rig based data
  • Perform vehicle and rig based calibration, assist with rig and vehicle testing
  • Work closely with the mechanical design team to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and control systems
  • Testing of electrical and electronic components for production sign off
  • Service and customer support of legacy control systems and components
  • Liaison with hardware and software suppliers
  • Perform design FMEA.

The experience and skills required for this role include:

  • Educated to Degree/HNC in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering or Mechatronics (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in the calibration of vehicle control systems, eg. Powertrain or chassis.
  • Knowledge of Automotive electronics, including sensors, control units (ECU and TCU’s) and vehicle diagnostics
  • Experience of CAN based vehicle systems and associated tools i.e. CAN analysis software
  • Experience of engineering processes such as FMEA, software development processes, 8D etc.
  • Able to plan and organise work schedules to meet deadlines
  • Competent and logical problem solving techniques
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • Promote Health, Safety & Quality at all times
  • Sense of Urgency – Showing drive & motivation

Experience of the following is desirable but not essential:

  • Off Highway transmission experience
  • Experience of controls development of complex electro mechanical systems
  • Experience of transmission and driveline calibration
  • Understanding of safety legislation and requirements
  • Knowledge of OBD systems and calibration of such systems
  • Familiarity with SAE J1939 CAN standards and experience of CAN dbc, file creation and proprietary message design
  • Knowledge of EMC standards, design for EMC and practical EMC test experience
  • A working knowledge of excavators, earthmovers, military, commercial or agricultural off road vehicles and their applications would also be desirable
